Lesson Two: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

For 2019, our theme is “Take it Home”. The last Wednesday of every month we cancel service and encourage every family to have a Family Bible Study night. Here’s the Bible study we provide for each family.

FOCUS VERSE

Psalms 139:14 will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

BEGINNING TOPIC

  • Every person was uniquely created by God. Many in our society has credited chance with determining who they are and what they’ll become. But as Psalms suggests, we were designed with intention.

THE CREATION STORY

  • Genesis chapter one tells us that “in the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” (1:1) He did this with no existing material or substance. (Job 26:7; Hebrews 11:3) The earth was unformed, unfilled, and covered in darkness (1:2), but in a matter of days it became the earth we live on today. It did not take hundred, thousands, or millions of years. God spoke our world into existence in 7 days.

    • First Day (1:3-5) – the earth was given light and time. God spoke and said, “Let there be light.” (1:3) Without a sun to support its gleam, light obeyed and shone brightly. When that light fell upon the earth, God called it day. When it did not, God called it night. Which declared the close of the very first day. God observed that it was good.

    • Second Day (1:6-8) – the earth’s upper atmosphere was divided from the lower body of water. The lower body of water is what we sail and fish on. The upper body of water is the atmosphere that contains oxygen for plants, animals and humans to survive.

    • Third Day (1:9-13) – three events are recorded on this day: God formed the ocean, dry land, and plant life. By a simple command, dry land appeared apart from the ocean. Upon the dry land, God created plants, grass, and trees. God observed that it was good.

    • Fourth Day (1:14-19) – the earth received a source of it’s light: the sun. God also placed the moon, stars and planets in the sky. This allowed the regulation of seasons. It also provided mankind signs for telling time and to navigate. God observed that it was good.

    • Fifth Day (1:20-23) – God demanded the earth to become populated with every shape and size of fish, insects, and birds. God observed that it was good.

    • Sixth Day (1:24-31) – the earth brought forth three types of animals: domestic animals that serve man, reptiles, and all wild animals. Crowning the work of the sixth day was the creation of man. God created man in His own image and likeness, giving us free-will. We are different than the animals, as we have intrinsic value above all living creatures. Despite knowing the eventual fall of man, God observed that His creation was good.

    • Seventh Day (2:1-3) – God ceased His creative work and sanctified the seventh day as a day of worship to man’s creator.

VERSES TO CONSIDER

  • God created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7). We should not seek to gratify the world with how we look or act, because we were created for the pleasure of God, not man (Revelation 4:11).

  • As God’s unique creation, He has a plan and purpose for our lives (Ephesians 2:10).

CONCLUSION

  • Every bit of who you are was designed by divinity. It is not by chance that we were placed on this earth. You were created by God, and He looks upon His creation and observes, “it is good.”
